Day 2 - Washington DC

Another busy day in beautiful Washington DC. We got back on our bus and cruised through stunning Georgetown. The buildings are amazing. Love the street scape of this area and the boutique shops.

Our first stop for the day was the Holocaust Museum. I cannot put this experience into words. It would have to be the most confronting, overwhelming and moving thing I have ever experienced. The poems, recounts and stories will stay with me forever. 'You are my witnesses' Isaiah 43:10

Went to the Information Centre Castle to chill out for a bit. Stunning structure and gorgeous gardens.

Loving our trip and back on the nerd train to check out Aviation and Space Museum.

The kid does love a bit of science, especially the planets... So cute!

I got a bit bored at this one...I was tired and hungry so probably didn't help. Wade's highlight was the Wilbur & Orville Wright exhibit.

I smashed Wade in the reflex game.... I was lightning!

We went for a massive walk to Capitol Hill taking it all in along the way.

Just can't get over how huge these buildings are. Incredible! As soon as we left there were cops everywhere and it was all roped off, no visitors allowed due to all that is going on at the moment.

I was getting grumpy - no food or coffee makes rhi a grumpy girl. All better after a stop at Starbucks.

Then back on the bus.....

....to the majestic Arlington National Cemetery where you find the 'eternal flame' in honour of the late JFK, along with his grave and family member's graves. The tomb of the unknown soldier is also here at Arlington.

View from JFK's grave. The area of the flame was being redeveloped, so no pics.

Memorial Amphitheatre next to the Tomb of the Unkown Soldier....stunning.

Tomb of the Unkown Soldier. We were lucky enough to catch the changing of the guard. Very moving.

We then got back on the bus and checked out the Pentagon... Wow talk about overrated. So unimpressed. So we decided to go for a walk along the river at sunset. Just simply beautiful.

We came across Nick's Grill at the waterfront precinct. So good. Perfect way to end another amazing day in Washington.

We have absolutely fallen in love with Washington. It has totally exceeded any expectations I had. Loved everything, the history, architecture, people, trees, gardens.....everything!

We were very lucky to be able to visit all museums etc as everything is closed down at the moment due to government not coming to agreement on policies.

Our last night in DC on to New York for a week with Mark and Terri. Can't wait. So excited!

  1. Oh Rhi! Stunning pics once again.....and I am sure you didn't mention to Wade that you were tired and hungry once! :) Looks like your timing was perfect - you got to see a lot of things that will be closed now for a while! Hope the government works out their policy issue soon! Looking forward to a group pic with Mark and Terri in NYC - I am excited so you must be even more so! Love you xxxx
